About kepubify

Free ebook converters for Kobo readers that run in your browser.

kepubify started as a personal tool. Converting a book to Kobo's kepub format usually means installing Calibre and a plugin, or hunting for a converter that makes you upload your file to some server first. Neither felt right for something as simple as reformatting a book, so the converter here was built to do that one job well and keep it private.

Everything runs in your browser. When you convert a book, the work happens on your own device and the file is never uploaded. That keeps your library yours, and it means the tools are fast because there is no waiting on an upload or a server queue.

We also run EbookNexus, which handles the rest of the ebook jobs: turning a Kindle mobi or azw3 into an epub, checking an epub for errors, editing the metadata or the cover, and making a file smaller. It works the same way, in your browser, with nothing uploaded.

About the name

The term "kepubify" was popularized by an excellent open-source command-line tool of the same name, created by Patrick Gaskin. This site is a separate, browser-based project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by it. The original is written in Go; the converter here is an independent implementation written from scratch in C and compiled to WebAssembly so it can run entirely in your browser. If you are comfortable on the command line, or you want to convert books in bulk, the original is well worth using: github.com/pgaskin/kepubify.
